Pink Bucket Productions was founded by Daryn Cash in 2000. Named for a plastic pink bucket seen along the side of the freeway, PBP was originally conceived as a film production company but it lay dormant for many years.
Then three things happened in the fall of 2003 that instigated the beginning of Pink Bucket Productions' current outpour of digital videos. First Daryn went to the 2003 TrannyFest Film Festival in San Francisco in November. Then he read Lloyd Kaufman's book Make Your Own Damn Movie in December. And in January of 2004 Daryn began Bob Giges' class on Mockumentary Film at UC Santa Cruz.
The result has been amazing. Daryn began shooting his first major digital video project, Straight to Video on February 14, 2004. From there he went on to do the short video Transliteration by special request from the UC Santa Cruz Queer Fashion Show, the PBP original A Cannibal Yankeee in a Kangaroo Court, and Christ! - a birthday present for his housemate that ended up showing at the 2004 Cinekink Film Festival in New York in October.
The summer of 2004 saw the production of the now-infamous EPIC, a spoof of Wolfgang Peterson's film Troy. Come fall a follow-up to EPIC was done called EPIC 2: The Pomposity Continues. A few shorts were completed around the same time -- Go Nova and Shakespeare in Mullets.
2005 was a slower year for PBP, as it saw a decline in free time available for Daryn to continue editing, planning and shooting videos. The year began strong with the shooting of the detective thriller Juris Prudence Jones, PI in January and class act Sex Crime of the Century: A Lifeless Original For Television shot in April, with principle photography on the short Mulder & Scully Go To Joshua Tree shot that March.
Though the first Mulder & Scully video has been completed and primary voices and much of the footage shot for its two sequels (Mulder & Scully Go To Baltimore and Mulder & Scully Save Christmas), Sex Crime has still to be completed, some three years later. A rough cut of Sex Crime was completed in May of 2007 but final shooting of filler footage (establishing shots, etc) is pending the completion of music for the movie by a third party.
No immediate plans are in place for future shooting dates or projects. The time available for video projects right now is being focused on finishing pending projects and song video projects.
PBP is located in California -- Santa Cruz has been the hub of most of the productions and editing though Daryn hasn't actually lived in Santa Cruz since June of 2004. Pink Bucket videos have been seen in all corners of the globe though. CD-ROMs, DVDs and VHS tapes of the videos have been sent to: New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Scotland, Germany, Canada, and 17 of the lower 48 United States and as more people donate and show their support, our base is growing.
